Records, systems and statistics

A perfect record: the only thing we aim for

Statistics are part of every recognised safety system, and form part of safety management best practice.

We accept that statistics perform the necessary evil of tracking and measuring, helping us maintain an ongoing focus on achieving the goal of ‘target zero’. That’s what we strive for and that’s why we measure. We ensure that our employees, subcontractors and suppliers all remain focused on that goal.

Our LTI and LTIFR statistics are well below industry norms and benchmarks. We also have an extensive Health and Safety (H&S) system, with a fulltime dedicated H&S Manager with a National Certificate in Construction Site Safety. We’re an approved Level 3 contractor with Sitewise and Prequal, both independent prequalification and auditing organisations, and we’ve achieved the highest possible score with both organisations within the relevant category.

Our complete Health and Safety (H&S) system embraces safety training as a cornerstone of performance.

Highlights include:

  • Camelspace is a member of SARNZ and Site Safe, and participates in reviews of applicable standards as they occur to improve safety within the industry.

  • All work crews/teams in the scaffolding division are led by staff who are fully qualified with Scaffolding Certificates of Competence and National Certificates in Scaffolding.

  • Camelspace has a Level 4 trained H&S Representative in each branch to provide staff support and ensure all staff are fully conversant and compliant with the H&S policy and procedures.

  • All field staff have completed Building Construction Passport Training through Site Safe and Working at Heights to Level 3 (NZQA: 23229, 15757).

  • A Site Specific Safety Plan is completed for each project.

  • Emergency Plan Procedures are prepared and documented each day.

  • A Hazard ID/Task Analysis/Toolbox Talk is prepared and documented each day prior to the commencement of any work, and redone whenever a new work stage begins or a new member joins the team. All team members participate in this ongoing routine.

  • Camelspace maintains a comprehensive Qualifications Register, which details all employee qualifications including inductions and expiry dates.

  • All Leading Hands hold First Aid Certificates.

Safety statistics

Statistics are part of every recognised safety system and form part of safety management best practice.

Nonetheless, Camelspace dislike the fact statistics tend to depersonalise those who have been hurt in the workplace and arguably marginalise the affect that harm has on others’ lives around them. Consequently, Camelspace believes that if safety statistics are to exist, unanimous agreement should be reached within the organisation and sight never be lost of the fact the only acceptable ‘statistic’ is zero accidents!

At Camelspace that unanimous agreement has been reached; with employees, subcontractors and suppliers regularly reminded to maintain a focus on that goal.

We accept statistics perform the necessary evil of tracking and measuring to help maintain an ongoing focus on achieving the nobler goal of ‘target zero’. That’s what’s strived for and that’s why we measure.

Our LTI and LTIFR statistics are well below industry norms and benchmarks.
