Systemised Edge Protection

Camelspace’s Steel Mesh Barrier by Combisafe is the only system available in NZ which is compliant with the world’s only specific edge protection standard, EN13374 (Classes A and B). It is also AS/NZS1576.1 approved.

Being mesh panel based, it is the only commercial edge protection product available in NZ which provides full debris containment. Panels also have integral toe-boards - a far cry from the improvised double or even single handrail solutions often cobbled together on NZ sites!

Another advantage of the system is that it has been independently laboratory tested and consequentley loading and impact absorption data and ratings are available; obviously not the case with site improvised scaffold-tube or timber railing alternatives.

Each panel is individually and uniquely marked with serial and batch numbers. Anyone purchasing or hiring is supplied with user instructions.

Each panel is under the manual handing weight limit of 20kg and there are a large number of fixing brackets available allowing it to be fixed to parapets, slabs, 'I' beams etc. It is possible to have the panels raised above floor level or even on the outside face of buildings to allow the installation of floor coverings, widow extrusions etc.

A system like this gets used, removed, stored and used time and time again from site to site; something which doesn’t normally seem to happen when alternative materials are adopted. Panels are supplied with installation instructions and/or training. Ticketed scaffolders are NOT required for its installation which can be carried out by any competent person, creating further edge protection lifecycle savings.

Panels can overlap to fit into any space perfectly.

They can be butted against a beam; raised out of the way when installing edge trim or pouring concrete; then lowered back to the correct height for working.

The Steel Mesh Barrier is available in 2 sizes, 2.6m and 1.3m. Barriers are 1.2m high with height 'make-up' panels available to increase this further.

Any contour can be followed and there is a bracket available to fix to almost anything!

Corners can be created at almost any angle and not just at the end of the barriers but any position along the barrier.

Camelspace’s edge protection used on all but the right-hand side of the top floor where an improvised solution from tube and clip scaffolding and wooden planks was initially opted for.
This turned out to be more expensive for the client and far less satisfactory - it was changed for Camelspace the day after this photo was taken.

A photo of the SMB Holder: An optional component to allow barriers to be fitted at any height on the post. The SMB Holder is locked to the post at the desired height. The barrier is then hooked over the SMB Holder; facilitating work under the barrier or enabling it to be installed parallel or flush with the work surface.

All barriers have reinforced flat bar edges making them many times stronger than alternatives. This also helps prevent damage during handling and transport.

In line with the requirements of the new international standard for Temporary Edge Protection Systems (EN13374), Barriers are all supplied with user instructions and batch number.

The toeboard covers the bottom return of the barrier providing full debris containment even when installed outside the work surface.
