Johnny Viljoen

Group Height Services Manager
(AKL based)

Johnny is across every job the department takes on, literally ‘from the ground up’. As Group Height Services Manager, it’s up to him to determine how the crew gets swinging stages up to the work level, assess the site and determine what they need to be safe up there. Same applies for the roof walkway and fall arrest systems; from system design and specification to installation planning and execution.

He’s often out on site visits quoting, managing teams and liaising with engineers and other contractors. He’s also responsible for inspections and re-certifications (fall arrest systems). The level of detail is critical – people’s lives literally depend on his assessments.

Johnny and his family moved to New Zealand from South Africa in 2015. A fitter and turner by trade, he owned his own business for 20 years, constructing large scale shades and verandahs to provide sun protection for car parks and public spaces.

A keen mountain biker and road cyclist, Johnny is never one to shy away from an adventure in the great outdoors. He loves riding single tracks through mountains and remote countryside, appreciating the stunning scenery and the ability to reach places cars never get to. He once rode 65km with two broken ribs after coming a cropper in the first stage of a two-day back-country race in South Africa!
