John Wielsma

Operations Manager / Branch H&S Officer, CHC

John is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Christchurch branch and ensuring each team has the right knowledge and tools to perform the day’s jobs to the highest standard and most importantly, safely. With over 18 years’ experience in the scaffolding industry, he manages logistics and scheduling, allocates crews to jobs and makes sure projects run to agreed programme and budget. A qualified scaffolder himself, he can still don the tool belt and join the team on the front line, should the need arise.

Working with the Group Health and Safety Manager based in Auckland, John ensures all health and safety requirements and compliance actions are occurring every day on every Christchurch job.

Prior to joining the branch’s field team, he worked for Braziers Scaffolding Ltd and, before that, another Christchurch scaffolding business. John began his working life as a moulder for Buchanans Foundry, followed by a stint in welding and sales for Healing Industries. He then spent nine years with an engineering firm as a conveyor belt vulcaniser and later as Sales Manager.

When he’s not keeping the busy Christchurch branch rolling, John enjoys getting out on the golf course and heading out on the water, fishing or jet-skiing with his family.
